GippsDairy Discussion Groups



Discussion Groups provide opportunities for dairy farmers to share experiences, learn and socialise off farm. Farmers are encouraged to join or form discussion groups if there are gaps in any areas that are of interest to them. A list of current discussion groups can be found below.

Automatic Milking Systems Discussion Group

The Automatic Milking Systems discussion group is open to all, including those who have adopted this system of milking or anyone who is curious about it. Topics change each meeting in regards to season or participant suggestions.

Women in Dairy Discussion Group

Women in Dairy is an initiative designed to bring women in the dairy industry together to create opportunities for networking, learning and inspiration. Discussion groups are held regularly throughout the year. Find out more about the Women in Dairy Discussion Group on their webpage.

Fertility Matters

The Fertility Matters Discussion Group allows for the exploration of all aspects of dairy herd fertility and how it can be maximised on farm. It intends to generate awareness, discussion, and promotion around the improvement of herd fertility on Gippsland Dairy Farms. Five meetings are conducted throughout the year in the South Gippsland region, with topics varying based on seasons, group member topics of interest, and new advancements.

Yarram Feedbase Matters

The Yarram Feedbase Matters Discussion Group was created in 2019 in response to several difficult seasons. Topics covered in the meetings include growing and conserving homegrown feed. This discussion group is run with support from Scott Travers, AG Warehouse Agronomist and meets five times per year.

Smarter Irrigation for Profit – Phase II Reference Group

SIP2 brings together industry, researchers and farmers to boost irrigation productivity for dairy farmers. There are two SIP2 dairy optimisation sites in Gippsland, Yarram and Cobains. Reference group meetings, workshops and field days are held regularly throughout the irrigation season at both sites.

Regional Discussion Groups

Regional Discussion Groups are location based groups focusing on issues and topics relevant to their area. Current regional groups - Bairnsdale, MID, Orbost and Yarra Valley - meet five times per year to discuss new their current challenges.
