Consumer Marketing

Dairy Australia's marketing to consumers aims to drive the value of dairy foods and the industry through positive promotion of the benefits of dairy.

We have identified a highly engaged socially conscious audience who are seeking more transparent information to help them to form positive opinions of dairy.

Consumer marketing campaign activity aims to address concerns of this group by providing transparent information on health, animal welfare and the environment to drive trust in the industry, farmers, and products.

World Milk Day

World Milk Day held 1 June each year is an international day established in 2001 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to recognise the importance of milk as a global food.

Dairy Australia together with the broader industry. celebrates World Milk Day each year by talking about the importance of milk for good health and the contribution of Australian dairy industry to jobs, communities and the economy.

In 2022, there was a global focus on sustainability and dairy’s role in mitigating climate change and commitment to working towards net zero. This celebration coincided with the 10 years of the Australian Dairy Sustainability Framework – the first industry-wide framework for an agriculture sector globally.

Dairy Matters

Dairy Matters is a communications platform to talk to what matters most to the community. This underpins campaigns that run nationally and highlight the industry’s commitment to the environment, animals, people, and the health and wellbeing of all Australians. Jonothan Brown our industry ambassador, features in these campaigns and brings to life why Australian dairy is an important part of a healthy diet.

The dairy.com.au website is a credible source of information about the dairy industry, its products and how they are produced. The ‘You Ask, We Answer’ section enables consumers to pose questions and have them answered by industry experts and tapping into the latest research.

How can you promote and celebrate dairy?

Dairy farmers are a trusted voice among the community. Consumers, school students and journalists want to hear from ‘real’ farmers about their on-farm practices and experiences.

Australian Grand Dairy Awards

The Australian Grand Dairy Awards began in 1999 to recognise and reward quality and excellence in Australian dairy produce and to acknowledge the achievements of the highly skilled, pioneering people who produce those products.

In the ‘grand final’ of Australian dairy awards, manufacturers of gold medal-winning products that have already been through a rigorous judging process at Australian qualifying competitions are invited to enter the prestigious annual Australian Grand Dairy Awards.

The Australian Grand Dairy Awards held in 2022 hosted 80 manufacturers and 22 esteemed expert judges participating. Close to 320 products were judged over three days, spanning over 18 classes including milks, yoghurts, ice creams, butter, cream and an array of cheeses. The 2023 Champions and Grand Champions will be revealed soon.

Healthy Bones Action Week

Healthy Bones Action Week takes place in August every year to raise awareness of the importance of building and maintaining bone health and to encourage Australians to consume adequate serves of dairy, get enough safe sun exposure and do weight bearing exercise.

In support of bone health, the recent University of Melbourne and Austin Health's Fractures Trial looked at the benefit of dairy in the elderly. The trial's most recent paper showed that increasing serves of dairy - milk, cheese, yoghurt, and skim milk powder - from an average of 2 to 3.5 serves per day resulted in a 33% reduction in all fractures, 46% reduction in hip fractures, 11% reduction in falls, and improved calcium and protein intakes.
